About Rosa
I
became acquainted with Rosa Hustinx when she expressed an
interest in joining the art club that I was supervising.
Although she had taken drawing lessons a few years earlier,
things had not really developed further due to a lack of time.
Now she had the time to take up the hobby again. Her particular
passion: working with colour!
Rosa proved to be a lovely, interesting lady with a visibly
creative personality. It was a pleasing coincidence to find that
she spoke Dutch. Having a nice chat in your own language was
always a bonus as the art club’s members were nearly all
English-speaking.
I got to know her work later.
Rosa opted for acrylic on canvas. Painting is a technique that
must become second nature. Rosa is a late-bloomer, but she found
her way in the colours and shapes she brushes on canvas.
Rosa succeeded in discovering her artistic identity. No
large-scale figurative depictions but rather amusing, narrative
scenes in bright and expressive colours.
Colourful compositions in a simple style, perceptive and
striking, right down to the finest details. They radiate a
disarming charm, which attract onlookers, forcing them to study
the paintings. Her work can easily be described as primitive
realism.
Rosa’s eye for detail can also be seen in the frames that she
chooses for her work – often double, one of which supports the
picture in a certain colour.
Rosa has been living in Portugal again for a while. She knows
how to strikingly depict the serenity, stoicism and special
light effects of the Portuguese landscape.
Other topics obviously have a Dutch influence again, such as
Training (a view over the Amstel River), Tulip Fields and
Wonderful World.
Rosa Hustinx’s work has pleasantly surprised me. Taking the time
to look at her work is strongly recommended.
